64th National Film Awards: Amitabh-Taapsee’s Pink wins Best Film On Social Issues

Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu-starrer Pink continues its winning streak. After a fantastic run at the box office, rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and big wins at all major award shows this year, the film has won Best Film On Social Issues at the 64th National Film Awards.

Earlier this year, the courtroom drama was specially screened at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Pink team, including Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Andrea Tariang, director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and producer Shoojit Sircar were invited and felicitated by Pranab Mukherjee.

An overwhelmed Big B had posted his appreciation for the gesture on Twitter. “A most rewarding evening with the President of India, as he watches PINK and then invites us for dinner…,” he had written.

Pink is about the patriarchal society which frowns upon independent women and labels them ‘loose’ or ‘characterless’. It also deals with the importance of consent in sexual relationships, and firmly gives the message, “A no is a no.”
