How this Engineering student in Gwalior is working towards the education of underprivileged children

What happens when your father ask you to choose between him and your passion to work for society? How heart wrenching is the moment to choose between one of the two most important things in your life. At such situations, any normal person will choose a parent who is stopping us because he wants that our future should be secure but what Abhishek did was indeed a challenging decision.

One day my father called me and said Abhishek choose muskaan or me. I got depressed but my book reading habit and experience of knowledge suggested me Abhishek think from heart and not from the mind. Your father is always yours so I choose muskaan, my love with full satisfaction. My father stopped talking to me but now he is happy with muskaan and its success”

It all began when Abhishek being an engineering student while going to college often encountered children of labourers who are working in the mud. Seeing the pitiable sight Abhishek’s soft heart one day compelled him to go to these kids and asked why they don’t go to school for studying? Getting the answer made him feel sad as there were no schools in the nearby vicinity for these kids to study and they don’t have the proper facility to study on their own. This made him start the initiative in July 2014 along with his friends Samarth, Garima, Vipul, Riya, Swadesh, Chakshu, Utkarsh and Basant.

The organization works towards the holistic interventions in the field of education, health and safer places for the children in the shelter homes, NGO’s and streets. Recently it made a world record by distributing more than 2100 education kits among the children of shelter homes.

According to Abhishek when these children will become adults they  would lack lot of skills and opportunities, therefore to bridge the gap between a good life and these children  the entire team of Muskaan which literally means spreading smiles is working towards the enhancement of education for these children with the help of the volunteers.

Being sensitive towards the children, the organization conduct proper volunteer trainings and workshops in schools and colleges to sensitize them about the issue of health advocacy and education among these children. The main aim of Abhishek is to spread love and care to these children along with good quality education so that they are able to achieve success in their lives. Through mobilizing the youth they are enabling the community and empowering these children in shelter homes.

The organization has impacted more than 5000 people through educational kit distribution and is currently teaching more than 350+ children in three cities. In the near future, the organization hopes to expand its reach to other major cities of the country.

Funding and good volunteers are the major challenges that Abhishek and his team is constantly facing to bring out the impact of the initiative in a greater manner. The organization is currently spread across Gwalior, Bhopal and Indore.

Owing to the great work that Team Muskaan is doing they have been bestowed with lot of awards and acclodes. They have also gained appreciation among the peer group.
