Child donates birthday money to PM’s relief fund for girls’ education


A seven-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua, on Tuesday donated money her father set aside to celebrate her birthday to the Prime Minister’s relief fund to educate impoverished girls.

Aryadhya Rawal, a Class 1 student, urged her father, Arvind to send a demand draft of Rs 21,000 that he was going to spend on her birthday to the Prime Minister’s Office.

“I see many girls in my colony not studying as their parents are poor. I decided to give the money to the Prime Minister, who will definitely spend it to educate children who are deprived,” said Aradhya who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday.

“I told my father not spend money on my birthday and instead send it to the PM,” she told Hindustan Times.

“I want every girl child in the country to study,” she said.

Arvind, who is a teacher said that he could not believe his daughter wanted to donate money to the PM’s fund. “ I was shocked but proud,” he said.

Anurag Chaudhary, chief executive officer of the district panchyat said that it was a matter of pride for the district.

“Everyone in the administration appreciates the gesture of the girl and her vision. She is an example for the people of Jhabua.”
