Think about the last time you took some time out to help someone in need, think of the last time you did something for children parents, other than your own, think about the last time you helped someone without expecting anything in return, think about the last time you brought a smile on a complete stranger’s face. And finally, Think of the last time you felt your existence made a difference to this world.
With this vision in mind Prarthana Prateek Kaul, a former employee of IBM had left her Corporate job nine years back and entered into the world of social sector. Having a master’s degree in Finance she was working in the Corporate Sector and was an active volunteer for different NGO’s during her job years too and she finally decided to enter into the social realm.
Over the course of these nine years she had motivated 5,000+ volunteers, conducted over 20 Disability Sensitization workshops including (Intro to braille and sign language) sensitizing around 500 people, had been a part of more than 400 events in last 9 years either as a Volunteer or as a volunteer leader, created awareness about 100+ NGOs through Running for a cause as I Care Champion at TCS World 10K Run for last 8 years and is supporting 1,450+ beneficiaries through her baby venture GiftAbled. She is a great source of inspiration to the womenfolk of the contemporary times.
With the great support of the family members and her husband, Prarthana started GiftAbled Foundation and GiftAbled Innoventures. GiftAbled is a Social Enterprise which strives to create an ecosystem of like-minded individuals to come together to build a sensitized and disabled friendly society. We have started an e-commerce store with the products made by the Differently-Abled and for the Differently-Abled. The main objective is to create opportunities, inspire people and transform lives of People with Disability.
Their services include Corporate Gifting, Trainings related to Disability Awareness, Talent Acquisition of Differently Abled, Events and Workshops for Differently-Abled etc. More than 500 GiftAbled Braille Cards have helped people express their feelings in a language that can be personally read by visually impaired without taking anybody’s help, at same time bring awareness to sighted people.
Talking about the challenges she faced as a women, Prarthna says “Be it my parents and siblings who encouraged me when I decided to move to Social Sector and keep supporting me at every step, to my in laws and best half Prateek who keep motivating me always and have given me that space and liberty to do more and more good.”
She thinks that everything is in midset of people around just think positive and motivate every “individual” to give their best, be it a woman or man. She believes that people should think how they want to be remembered forever as being a routine day or want to make it a different one by rethinking about offering a helping hand to promote an Inclusive World which is beyond rich and poor, beyond ability and disability, beyond equality and inequality, beyond the materialistic life, it’s a dream World.
She gives out a very motivating message to the women of the nation through a quote by John Lennon: “You may say I’m a Dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.” And… A mix of thoughts learnt over a period of time.
