Karnataka Budget: Movie Ticket, Alcohol Prices to go down; Canteens to offer breakfast for Rs 5 & Other Highlights

Karnataka Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah on Wednesday presented the state’s Budget in the Assembly. Siddaramaiah has presented the highest number of budgets and this was 12th Budget in Karnataka. Among a slew of sops, the Karnataka Chief Minister announced Rs 100 crore for Namma canteen, lifting of VAT on liquor, free LPG scheme and eggs for Anganwadi workers.

Here are the highlights of the Karnataka Budget 2017 presented by Siddaramaiah

– Rs 1.86 lakh crore Budget announced
– Rs 5,080 crore allotted to the Agricultural Department; a 16 per cent increase from last year
– Rs 15,929 crore allotted for Water Resources; an increase of 10 per cent from last year
– Free laptops to needy students getting admission to engineering, medical, polytechnic and first grade colleges
– ASHA workers to receive assured remuneration of RS 1,000 per month
– Namma canteen to serve breakfast for Rs 5 and lunch for Rs 10
– VAT on wine, beer and hard liquor lifted
– Matrupoorna scheme to be extended to all districts to tackle malnourishment among pregnant, lactating mothers
– High end motorbikes, above Rs 1 lakh, to become expensive as MVT increased to 18 per cent from 12 per cent
– Eggs for Anganwadi children two days a week from June 2017 across state
– New Yuva Yuga scheme to train 1.10 lakh people in IT, electronics, animation and other sectors proposed
– New scheme of free LPG service for 5 lakh poor families not covered under the Ujjvala scheme announced
– Cash prize for Olympic medal winners hiked to Rs 5 crore for gold, Rs 3 crore for silver and Rs 2 crore for bronze medals along with Group A government jobs
– Skill Developmemt Mission launched with allocation of Rs 200 crore; 5 lakh youth to be trained under CM Karnataka Skill Development Programme
– Anna Bhagya entitlement increased to 7 kg per person
– Movie ticket prices capped at Rs 200 at all cinema theatres, including multiplexes
