It is said that God couldn’t be everywhere, so he created Mothers. After all the sacrifices they make for our well being, they ought to be taken care of by the children. However, due to various reasons, many mothers and fathers are neglected and are left to fend themselves. What is even worse is when they are locked up without food while the children are away to celebrate festivals. One such distressing incident has happened in Allahabad, where a man locked his mother at home and went to Patna to celebrate Chhath Puja with his wife. For seven days, his famished and thirsty mother kept looking for her son to return. When hunger became unbearable, she sought help from passersby by waving from the window. On receiving information, police rushed to the scene. They broke the door and rescued the woman.

The incident took place in Khuldabad police station limits in Allahabad. The resident of the house Vijay Kashyap locked his mother Ramdulari (86) in the house and went to Patna to celebrate Chhath Puja with his wife. For a week, his mother was locked in on the second floor of the house. There were only biscuits for her to eat. She ran out of biscuits, and unable to bear the hunger any longer, waved her hands from the window seeking help from the people.

Speaking to The Logical Indian, SHO of Khuldabad Police Station, Mr Kaushal said, “Locals called the police after hearing screams. The police had to break into the house as it was locked from outside. There were some biscuits and nothing else. The police and locals helped her. She is very old, nearly 90 years of age. Neighbours are now attending to her.We have not registered any case yet. Once the son and his wife return from Bihar, we will speak with them and take necessary action.”
