With a vision of providing blood to the people in need, The Saviours is helping a number of people to avail blood at the time of emergency.
Founded by Kunal who is an entrepreneur and a novelist, The Saviours, NGO, was established on October 21, 2014. Earlier the team used to arrange the donors in emergency and conducted awareness campaigns but since the inception of the organization it is organizing successful blood donation camps, awareness drives at events such as Raahgiri Day, conducts Humanity Week etc.
“It was during my maternal grandfathers’ operation, I was denied the most common blood group in the premier hospital and blood banks of the city. That time I came to know that Saviours is the need of an hour.” said Kunal The saviours team have a database 15000+ people as emergency donors, 200+ interns from different colleges and universities and is currently serving in 3 cities Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. They are straining to extend this to Mumbai as well.
Speaking about the challenges which Kunal and the team faced, “Challenges which I faced initially and I even do today is, a big myth and fear people even hold for blood donation. They still ask, ‘Kuchh hoga to nahi?’ And I answer, ‘Sir, I have donated blood over 8 times and am still fit enough to pick 15 kg dumbbells in the gym every day.‘
He also says that, “from convincing people to registering them as an emergency donor and actually getting them to donate in an emergency is a real task. Many people only register, but never inclined to assist. But it’s not very difficult to get the right people. Now, they have arranged 500+ donors in emergency till date plus various blood camps have executed.
Though The Saviours is self funded, but it is open for donations and grants. The philosophy that The Saviours followed, ‘Never accept thanks from a requester, just ask him/her to get 3 people registered as emergency donors in any similar organization.’
According to Kunal, “We plan to have a team of The Saviours in every college and revolutionize the way blood donations are arranged. People are developing Mobile App for this cause, but we are attracting youth of the country to participate so that not only we solve a major social and health problem, but also it instills a confidence and a self belief in every intern of our organization to be a leader and a change maker.”
