As Durga Puja is round the corner one can see beautiful puja pandals decorated with lot of vibrant colours across the country. But what is special about the Durga Puja Pandal located at the Baghajatin road, college para (south), Siliguri is the theme of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with which they have decorated the whole pandal in order to inspire the people to keep the city clean and hygienic.
The organizers Mr. Uttam Ghosh and Mr. Samar Mukherjee have been organizing the durga puja pandals in the locality since the last 11 years. Every year there is a different theme kept to motivate people to bring a change in the society and this year they have kept this theme with an aim to reuse and recycle waste goods. The whole pandal is built of waste goods which symbolise recycling so as to make people aware of the value of reusing instead of just throwing things away. The more the people see through the pandal the more they learn to reuse the old things.
“This year we are using materials which people usually throw away like old cold drink bottle caps, old CDs, egg crates, cold drink bottles etc. We have dustbins at every corner provided by the municipality and they are separate ones for both the bio degradable and non bio degradable items.” says Mr Ghosh.
Apart from the decorations and coming towards the festivities there will be a distribution of khichdi prasad amounting to 200 kilos everyday served to about 7000 pandal hoppers irrespective of cast, class, religion etc for the coming 3 days starting from 19th, 20th, 21st October.
